Buffy is our only Orpington. She is independent, lower on the pecking order, but big, fluffy and likes to cluck. She lays frequently when not broody. She's my only brooder so far that I have...

Looks pure breed to me.I am pretty sure this rir is a rooster.
My RIR rooster had smaller pointed tail feathers than my hens.I have been able to guess the gender of most of my chicks by their pointed or rounded tail feathers, but guessing by the saddle feathers near the tail and the hackles on their neck is easier for me.Males will normally have pointed saddle and hackle feathers and females will have rounded.Sometimes a male's comb will grow faster than the hens and turn red faster.
They are so cute!
I can't wait until spring!

this stinks because as for the ordinance i found from around my area they say only 2 hen and no roos so im gonna have to get rid of him but im going to keep him as long as possible lol and least to see if i can get a few eggs out of my hen that i can hatch out befor emy neighbors complain lol, iv heard other roos around her crowing so we will see
ok so now we might now what sex these our how bout you people suggesting names, i know its really up to me as they are my pets and campanions but i would just like to see what you guys got just throw out some names
OH MY GOSH!! Your RIR looks exactly like mine (Sorry no picture right now). We've been very worried that ours is a rooster too.
(S)He looks different from our others (1 RIR, 2 barred rocks) and sets himself(herself) apart from the other 3. Ours are 9 weeks. I still hope it's a hen because we have a noise ordinance and can not have a roo.
Good luck to you. Not sure what we will do with ours.
We are attached.
PS. We have five other hens (13 weeks) and none of them looked quite like this at any age.
Hey,who knows for sure,I thought for certain that my splash andalusian was a hen.Today I found out he's a rooster.

That's pure Rhode Island Red ROOSTER. My rooster looked just like that when he was a baby as did his mate. I sold his brother for $15.00 dollars a few days before Christmas. If I could figure out how to post pictures without someone having to do it for me I'll post pictures of my chickens. Most likely be showing my Rhode Island Reds off. Rusty my main man is SO handsome. But pushy when it comes to food. I have to shove him back when I'm going to throw a handful of feed to the flock. I think his mate Bunty is going to start laying within a month maybe more. I also have another pullet whose mother is Red Sexlink and her father is a Rhode Island Red. What would that make her? A double Red Sexlink? Please tell me.

Mother to 19 chickens, 1 dog and 1 cat.
Getting 1 to 3 eggs from my girls! Cannot wait to get off those nasty store eggs.
