What is your favorite breed of dog? & why?

Hmm, that's a good point. I am somewhat that way too haha but they're like... constant lol I think a Lab, Golden, or Aussie, or something would also pester me to go out/do something but then would choll chill once we did :p

That said, I do love doing stuff with dogs and training and stuff and want to try some dog sports so it'd probably be fine but it's like constant with them lol

Yeah I totally understand that! That's how I'd try to raise a Springer or Malinois. But I currently have a purebred Lab and a Pointer mix and they don't pester me to get out, they kinda just lay around until I decide to walk them or something which is why I'm looking for something more high energy that can't even go one day without a long walk or jog. I think there's a way to raise any dog to be calm and chill in the house and of course training helps and I'm kind of interested in the challenge of raising a "chill" Malinois lol or at least get it to not be insane every moment of the day! I've talked to a couple owners of them who have raised them well and they all said when raised right they do have a off switch inside and they will sleep on the couch with them for a hours. But it's only if you provide all the exercise and mental stim they need (same for every breed) but I think if you're ready for a Malinois lifestyle then go for it! A Springer Spaniel is more chill then a Mal but still crazy which is why I'm getting one before I even seriously think about a Malinois to make sure I can handle such high energy dogs!

Definitely the 2 breeds I have now, Weimaraner and Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Not breeds for everyone by any means but they're great for us. Our last Chessie, I felt was the best dog ever in the history of dogs, but the current one is giving him a run for his money.

My Weim is the easiest thing to train ever, but she's the weirdest dog. I love (most) of her quirks. Dh and I call the Chessie our emotional support dog because he literally is.

I knew someone with a Chessie once and the thing was vicious. I never really met it but my brother was best friends with the kid for a while so he said so plus they did once. I think it may have attacked someone but idk. But I am sure it was just a poorly bred one but that's kind of somewhat put me off from the breed unfortunately. But I am sure yours is nice but I've just never met any others.

They are protective but how they're raised makes a huge difference. I get it though, bad experience with pit bulls turned me off of them completely.

That makes sense! It probably wasn't raised right either and/or was protecting the kids. And aw that stinks, understandable though. My friend got bitten on the ankle by their neighbors Schipperke once and now hates them lol I usually love most dogs except ones that have been aggressive to me but even those I can sometimes come around on lol I guess I'm just so used to retrievers, like Labs and Goldens, being so easy going, fun loving, goofy, love everybody dogs that a stronger personality and/or protective retriever throws me off haha

We have mutts.
We have always loved Labs and have had multiple over the years of our marriage. But they shed like crazy everywhere so we decided to try a Labradoodle. She has a lot of the loveable lab qualities along with being low to no shed. Though you can definitely tell she has some poodle quirks. She definitely didn’t inherit the “I love everybody” lab mentality. She is more reserved and it takes a while to win her over for most people. Though even after nearly 3 years she still doesn’t like my inlaws. LOL! She won’t even come in the house while they are here.

We have a Beagle & Basset hound cross that was a pound dog. He is sweet most of the time but can be super annoying when it comes to barking for absolutely no reason.

And lastly we have a poodle Maremma Shepdog cross. I originally wanted a golden doodle but the breeder didn’t have any available as one of her dogs had an “OOPS” batch of puppies with their neighbors’ LGD (Maremma). So we went to look and fell in love with the biggest goofiest puppy. We thought she might be low shed like our labradoodle but her fur went the other direction and she sheds like crazy all of the time. Oh, well! She is a big love and very unique. And oh so smart.....I taught her how to sit, speak and shake in the matter of a week.

My plan for the future is to get a golden doodle from the same breeder we got our Maremma Doodle from. But we are waiting until the Beagel cross passes away because 3 dogs is plenty to clean up after!

My favorite breed of dog is a Pug. They are affectionate, they love people, and they are a delight to have around. There is nothing that is cuter than a Pug puppy. One thing to be aware of is that if you buy a puppy, see the parents and make sure they are not snorters. Snorters have trouble breathing under exertion. There is a structure in the mouth, I forget its name, that if it is too long flops over and partially blocks the trachea. Surgery can fix this problem but it is better not to have to deal with it in the first place.

Also buy from a good breeder because encephalitis is common in poorly bred Pugs...
