Topic of the Week - Lice and Mites - Prevention and Treatments

Pics
I have a small flock of 7 hens. I try to stay as natural as possible. I've been using diatomaceous earth as a dust in the coop and also as a dust bath addition. I haven't had any problems with bugs of any kind. Recommend it highly. It can also be used on dogs to fight fleas!

This is what one of the vets said
Basically any pesticide that isn't labeled for poultry is not allowed ( pesticides are not the same as other drugs, you can't use them off label). Since they aren't allowed, the "tolerance" ( amount of residue allowed in eggs) is zero. The problem with sevin is that it stays in the reproductive tract for long, long periods of time ( in studies it was still being found in eggs 2 months after a single treatment, and the levels weren't dropping much). This only applies to US eggs. I don't know about other countries

So if it is not listed on the approved product list and is a pesticide product it is lifetime
