(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We started researching chicks for about 2 years and finally in April we were ready when the nursery was ready.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We decided on 6 just in case the unthinkable happened, we still have 6

(3) What breeds do you have? We ended up with 2 ameraucana and 4 cross breed I assume since I cannot identify them as of yet... They are white with red combs ear lobes yellow feet brown eggs.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I have been lurking for a while and decided finally to sign up.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We have a Koi pond that is going to grow come spring, it's ready for more space as our fish are quite large.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am married to a wonderful man. I stay home to care for the house and dogs 5 of them and chickens, fish. He has many hobbies far too many to list but his favorite is wood working. We have been married 22 years 4 kids 4 grands so far with more to come. I crochet when I can during the colder months and enjoy it very much.

I am so very pleased to have found this forum and look forward to talking and meeting a few of you members

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. It's good to hear that your flock remains intact - that should give you confidence for expansion plans next spring, I'd imagine

Sounds like you are blessed with a beautiful family.

I have a red heeler, great dog.

His mom was a blue and his dad was a red. Although he isn't tri colored his fur is so beautiful, some 1/2 red & 1/2 blue. But lets not forget the white under coat. We don't use him for working. And although he would like to taste a little chick, he is a good protector of our flock and home. Scary things don't back him down, just make him more determined.

I used to live in the valley (Visalia / Bakersfield), I'm thinking Patterson is around the Fresno area?
