Hi! I'd like to introduce my weird little one and a half month old """salmon"""" faverolles.
When I first purchased them from ideal poultry, they were pure white little puffballs. I thought they would grow up to be perfect, white and peach colored salmon faverolles.
That's not at all what happened

Their first couple of tail and wing feathers grew in perfectly cream colored. But as soon as I brought them home, everything changed. Every feather that grew in after that was either gray, black, or brown. I was so confused. I thought I had somehow gotten 2 roosters!
I'm pretty sure they are pullets. Their coloring is just because of poor breeding. I asked ideal poultry and they said they just had the "black gene." Ironically, they were hatched on the day of a lunar eclipse! I like to think this is why they're so dark

Anyway, here's some pictures:

I also have decided to rename them, because their last names don't really fit anymore. Id love to hear suggestions!!

I wondered if a blue x salmon gives you mahogany...there are mahogany faverolles and they have the grey/black markings and skirts, not the cream of the salmon.
The mahogany roo is definitely mahogany colored to, completely different from the black of the salmon roo....

google pics 'mahogany faverolle'

3 of my 9 'salmon' hens are the mahogany color.....and they live with the egg laying flock....the one on my profile pic is 'Mallory' They are so cute...love the way they bend at a 45 degree angle to run full force ahead...lol...just love my faverolles, sweet and comical!

This thread is kind of old, but here's an update on my hens!
My faverolles have matured very well and have a full muff, and very pretty feathers. I let them free range in the daytime and they do so well! Very good foragers and will follow me all over the yard, and help me garden. I am very happy I got them and i like their mottled plumage.

Oh! and I ended up naming them Moon (left) and Owl (right)
Owl is named because she has a white band of feathers below her face, making her look like an owl :) Moon has a pretty white striped neck and belly!
