sick chicken recomedation

Hey I'm new with poultry and just bought 3 chicken from this farm, one of them got sick, shes not walking just stay still with the eye close, I have her 6 drops of VetRx yesterday morning around 7am and 6 at afternoon around 3pm and electrolytes in the water she started to make the chicken sound. her drops is like she have diarrhea, what is you guys recommend.

Is she coughing, sneezing, wheezing?
What does the poop look like?
Feel of her abdomen, does it feel hard, soft, squishy, fluid filled, bloated? (compare it to one of the other girls)

It looks like she may be molting(?) do you see pin feathers coming in?

Separate her if you can so you can monitor and give her some extra attention. If she has symptoms of respiratory illness, then you will want to monitor her closely.

Provide her with some extra poultry vitamins in her water, give her her normal feed with some extra protein like egg, tuna, mackerel or meat.

The VetRx is fine to use, so continue with that until we try to help you figure out what's going on. Vet care is best, but some of us don't have access to one. You may want to call the farm where she came from and see if they have an illnesses currently on their premises.

FWIW, since these are your first chickens and they all came from the same place, it's fine to keep them together. In the future, when purchasing new chickens you will want to have a quarantine and bio-security plan in place. This helps if a new one happens to be sick, this way you don't introduce illness to your existing flock. Here's some info to get you started, there are many articles here on BYC and the web.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, her poop is very liquid and yellowish with white. I did not see her sneezing or coughing. I am at work at the moment, as soon I get home I will take look her abdomen, my boss got five chickens from the same place he said one of them is the same way he though she like that because of her new coop, I contact the guy who we bought the chicken from did not answer the phone. One thing that she have a running nose. I have her yogurt today and I saw her drinking water.where I can buy the vitamins? do you think tractor supply would have it ? thanks again for everything God bless

If she has a runny nose, then she may have a respiratory illness. Separate her when you get home so you can monitor her symptoms more closely.

Tractor Supply should have poultry vitamins. The 2 that I know of that they carry in my store are Poultry Nutri-Drench and Rooster Booster Poultry Cell, either one would be fine.

I'm so sorry to here this.

Contact the farm to see if they have any idea what could be going on.

The only way to know for sure what a chicken died from would be through necropsy.

If that is something your boss would want to do, then have them refrigerate the body, then pack and send to your state lab.

Most respiratory illnesses are contagious and can make a whole flock carriers of the illness regardless if they ever show any symptoms. Some common symptoms that you may see is coughing, sneezing, wheezing, runny nose/eyes, gasping for breath, lethargy, ruffled appearance, etc. Depending on what it is, sometimes antibiotics can help with any secondary infections, but won't cure the illness. Morning, yesterday I feel her abdomen she is really skinny I can feel all the bones around her, but she looks a little better I have her more vetRx and antibiotics yesterday I also put tuna on her food see if she can eat it. her poop looks more firm too, hope she will do well soon.

I spoke with my boss about his chicken the guy told him he will replace his chicken for him since we are beginners and don't know about chickens

She does look a little better

Check her over well for any signs of lice/mites as well and if you have a vet take a fecal sample to them for testing of worms.

The runny nose is concerning. Chickens don't get colds, they have respiratory illness, so keep an eye on that.

What antibiotics did you get?
