So my Japanese quail decided to be broody again after giving up after 5 days last time. The only problem is she became broody while my male quail was in quarantine. When I placed him back, he hassled her so much she fled her nest. I threw out those eggs she brooded for a few days. But it didn't take long before she was broody again. She is now sitting on eggs that was laid shortly after the male was back. Would they be fertile? The male was away for 2 days.

They should be fertile. I'm sure if you want to change roosters you have to have the girls separated for two weeks (don't quote me on the timeframe but it's quite awhile they can still produce fertile eggs/store sperm). Good luck this time round!

Unfortunately she gave up on the 13th day. Same as last time. It was after a storm. :(

So an update. We continued to incubate the eggs after our broody quail gave up. 5 has hatched so far. My friend has an unusually broody quail which pretty much broods all year round so I borrowed her quail. Took it home and placed it with the chicks. 10min later, she was brooding them! Just amazing. She is so good with them. So I will have some brooded quails after all! This mamma quail loves brooding so much she has even brooded chicken chicks before. She is one very special mummy quail.

Oh nice!! I would love to see a quail momma taking care of huge chicken chicks
