Kid and City Friendly Chickens

Oh my, I was thinking about getting a combination or Austrolorps and Delawares (no more than a dozen total). I'll do some more research to see what I actually want. I know all chickens have individual personalities, but don't want any drama hens. No problem here of doing a pot of chicken & dumplings if one of the little heffas act up, disturbing the rest of the flock. --BB

I could have just had a nasty one-I had heard good things about the breed as well. If I had the space I would have just kept her but my coop and local environment won't support more than 6-8 hens and I decided that if I'm limited I wasn't going to keep one that was being a booger :)

One breed that I have that I ended up liking far more than I thought I would are Dominique chickens. They lay smaller eggs but they're inquisitive and funny, at least in my (admittedly limited) experience.

You may consider starting a separate thread and solicit some more opinions on Delaware's. I'd hate to steer you away just because mine was cantankerous.

There is already a Delaware thread out there, and I've read all the postings. Doing my research, I've realized that I don't want any egg-laying machines that burn out in 18 months like those sex-links, just some modest egg layers. --BB

My Dominique hens are great also! They're all nice and good looking.
