Hi all. I have an egg that pipped on wrong end. It looked dry so I went ahead and tried to assist. I removed some shell and peeled back some of the membrane then noticed blood so I stopped. I moistened the membrane and returned to the incubator.

Any ideas? Thoughts? What should I do?

Type 'assisted hatch' in the search bar at the top of the page. A thread 'Step by step assisted hatch' will appear. Click on that. Good luck.

Thank you. I may have intervened too soon but I may have stopped in time. She's doing good. Will continue to keep an eye on her.

I had one pip on the wrong end, and didn't progress for nearly a day. By that time I started peeling away the shell while leaving the membrane intact, moistening it, and putting the egg back in the incubator. We went out for dinner and the chick was out by the time we got back. I would go slowly, leaving the membrane alone, and wait a few hours in between assists to give it a chance to hatch by itself. :)

That's exactly what I did! I had a malposition before and it needed no help but this one struggled. I peeled away some shell and moistened the membrane. Took her several hours but she made it :)
