Hi folks, just getting started with raising chickens. Almost have the coop finished. I have a pretty good idea of what breeds I would like to try for backyard layers, and was looking for any suggestions on responsible breeders that might be locally available. I am located about 60 miles north of New Orleans in Washington Parish, about 10 miles south of Franklinton, in a little town called Enon. I am interested in obtaining approximately 20-30 chicks. Considering 1 rooster or maybe a few geese.

Being in Aus, I am unable to assist with your search for breeders but see that you have already received some helpful tips.

I will just wish you luck and say that I hope you enjoy BYC; not only is it overflowing with lots of useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures about chickens, turkeys, duck, quail, Peas and pretty much any other feathered and non feathered friends
