Spring 2017 first timers post!

Finally got my camera battery charged and took some chick pics (haha my hubby would love that) today. They are about 2-3 weeks old. I have some ideas on sex but of course not positive until they get older but any guesses would be fun! I think I missed 2 of them (it's hard to tell which ones I have grabbed already!) but here are the ones I got:

Buff Black Tail Marans (there is a 3rd that I think I missed)
Chick 1

Chick 2

Black Copper Marans
Chick 1

Chick 2

Chick 3

Blue Copper Marans (think I missed one of these too)
Chick 1

Chick 2

Chick 3

Chick 4

Chick 5

Thanks for looking!

Things are finally settling down for us. The coop and run are DONE! This has been a huge anchor around our necks as ALL of you know or will know this common problem. We have had a few losses and a few additions to our little flock, now 11 girls(one is showing male aggression). The girls probably average about 2 weeks old and tonight is their 4th night out in the cold cruel world of the coop but accompanied by their MHP. Don't know how others manage to get such nice individual pictures of their chicks, ours never stop running in a pack which makes solo pictures difficult.

The last 2 days we have taken all 11 out onto the grass inside the run. A little hesitant the first day but today much bolder and easier to corral to put back into the coop. Days are barely reaching the 50s and windy. Sure looking forward to some sunny and warm spring days.

So the pictures show the completed coop/run, with everything fenced and the roof either metal roofing over the coop and corrugated poly over the run. Will be interesting to see IF anything can get in, we really don't think a mouse could enter, fingers crossed. OOPs, this was supposed to be in the Spring 2017 thread!!!
How do I move it?

Looks awesome and huge! And so nice to see green grass. We still have mostly brown winter grass here. Did you lose some chicks? I didn't know. Was it the one that was limping? Its such an emotional roller coaster isn't it? Well it looks like you both have done a fantastic job and it turned out awesome.
Do you have updated pictures of the inside? Im pretty much done with my coop too. I just want to do a little decorative painting when Im off work on Wednesday then I might put the chicks outside Thursday! Im so nervous about it. Enjoy those babies!

Just FYI, it is really useful to have a small extra coop in the yard in case you have chickens that need to be kept separate. You could use it for quarantining new birds or sick birds, or for keeping new chicks in before you combine them with your older chickens. Just saying.

Good thought! I like the idea of having an extra also, but I think my husband is worried about the clutter.

Beautiful! This is very similar to what we're going to try to do. I love the spot you chose.

My 2 week olds have open water and a horizontal nipple waterer but they don't seem strong enough to trigger the water to come out yet. I chise horizontal over vertical nipples for less leaks but is the vertical easier for chicks to trigger? I have some unused verticals in the garage. You think I should switch to verticals for now and maybe they will be able to use it?

In case it helps anyone else:

The chicks were ignoring the horizontal nipple for 2 weeks, used a vertical immediately when I offered it and now after a day of using the vertical have figured out the horizontal also. The vertical definitely leaks a lot more so will be only temporary until I am sure they can all use the horizontal.
