I have been giving my chickens water from a meal watering can for awhile. Was wondering what some of you might be doing to train them to use the nipples?

Any ideas would be put to use!

Thank you!

I used horizontal nipples. Instructions said to take up all other water and let them figure it out. That is what I did and the first one figured it out in less than 2 minutes. The rest followed soon after.

Ok. I did end up putting the nipples on the bottom of the bucket so I may need to switch it out to the side walls.

Thank you for the feedback!

Posted this on a different thread yesterday, but same applies:

How to get them to drink from a nipple waterer: I'd put the new waterer close to where the previous one was, if possible. Maybe take away the old waterer for a little bit (1 hour) before putting in the nipple waterer, so they're thirsty. The chickens should be curious as to what the new waterer is and peck at it. If they seem to have trouble getting the hang of it, tap the nipple when they're close by and drip a little on their beak. They'll figure it out. I really didn't have any issue switching mine over, took maybe 5-10 minutes to get all of them testing it out.

It does need to be the only source of water as chickens seem to prefer muddy puddles, water dripping off the fence, dew drops off leaves, etc, over clean water that you're trying to get them to drink. It's very rainy right now so mine pretty much ignore the waterer in favor of licking the coop roof and run fencing.
