Looking for advice. Right now I have my quail on the ground in their pen. Deep litter with straw. I have a 2 gallon stereotypical poultry waterer setup. It sits on a double layer of paving stones to get it up off the straw.

By the end of the day the rim is almost full of straw.

What are you all using to water? I'm thinking of nipples/water cups hooked to PVC but am afraid of the transition number one (will they get it) and of freezing during the winter.

Any idea or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use rabbit water bottles. My birds took to it immediately, no training at all.

Edit: I imagine the same would hold for poultry waterers, I keep my birds indoors so it isnt a big deal to refill the bottles from a gallon jug or whatever. Some are freeze proof, though.

I use the system from back yard flock. It is so nice. I use the watering cups and tied it into my watering system for my plants. I never have to water the quail again. I will try to take photos this weekend when I clean the cages so you get an idea of my set up.
