Anyone ever use the Concrete block water heater. We made one today with bricks to absorb heat better.Curious if it works with other people.

What heat source are you using? I have read a lot about coops catching fire. There are not many heat sources I would trust in a coop with dry bedding and live animals, plus electricity and water.

I've used a homemade heater made from a hollow concrete block and ceramic lamp boxes. I used two solid, thinner blocks for the base and top. On super cold days or when the wind was so strong it buffetted the tarps such that the birds stayed in the coop all day, I would set a milk jug with a horizontal nipple on top of the block. It did a good job of keeping the water from freezing. I never had any bedding get in the hollows of the block. I set the jug in a pan to catch drips just in case. Never had a leak though.

I also removed the jug and turned it on during some nights that were uncharacteristically cold for my region. I found a hen or two roosting on the block. I figured it added an amount of heat equivalent to having a couple more birds in the coop and that the girls would appreciate the added warmth. I've changed things up now so no longer use it.

Late to this party but yes, I use one. I use a ceramic lamp base inside the block and control it with a thermo cube so it doesn't run constantly. More details if needed.........
