I'm a new to chickens and today I noticed small little black dots on one of my hen's face. On closer inspection I realised it was a small insect that was sitting there, literally glued to the chicken's skin when I tried to get it off. Under the head faethers there were more but I coudnt detect any others on the rest of its body!?
Is this a type of head louse? Its larger than a mite ( well I've never encountered mites but I'm basing this on descriptions ) The parasite is black or a dark brown. The infestation is still relatively small and I'll send pics as soon as I can.
What is This type? And what must I do??
