The first eggs I put in the incubator are from 11/16. There were 2 eggs - 1 is all dark except the air cell, 1 all lights up. I threw out the empty one, but how much longer do I give the one with an air cell? Eggs from 11/21 are wiggling now (so they're on lockdown and day 17 today) and still nothing from 11/16. It did float when I did a float test too. Is it time to give up on it? Also, is there an approximate amount of time from when eggs on lockdown start wiggling to when they pip and then hatch? I know they're day 17 so I'm really hoping to at least see one pip today.

Most quail hatch on day seventeen but the ones that do hatch on day eighteen usually are very small and usually die. I also hatched my out first quail batch and I had three hatch on the eighteenth day and 2 (1 was a cripple) out of the three died I think but I still have one left from the eighteenth day it is very small and gets pecked on. I hope your chick hatches and all goes well and I also hope my advice was helpful!!!

I'd give them until day 22. Sometimes there is a dip in temperature or something that can delay them. They will wobble noticeably if you float test them and they are alive.

I ended up throwing out the eggs from 11/16 and 11/17. They didn't wobble even slightly during the float test. I did open one of the eggs from 11/16 and it was only partially developed. I'm hoping for the eggs from 11/21-23

It's so sad you didn't have any hatch. And I hope that you have better hatch next time!!!!!

I'm sorry. It's hard not knowing and I don't have any answers. I just wish quail would go broody and do all the hard work themselves! Hopefully your wrigglers will hatch on schedule. The first time we hatched some we had one hatch that just didn't seem to recover and it died. Sometimes it's just one of those things and you just have to accept there isn't anything you can do. Our next two times have been more successful though we still had one recently that died during hatching. It does seem to be quite common so don't beat yourself up about it.

I just hope it's not something I did. We have a Little Giant with quail rails and a circulating fan. The temp is 99-100.5 and humidity was 45-55% until lockdown and then up to 65%. Would it maybe help to mist them or sponge them with a little water to soften the shell before hatching?
