I have one duck and 6 hens (just turned 8 months old yesterday) they have been raised together but for whatever reason my chickens have started going after my duck (her eyes and bill to be exact) when she does "flat duck" (she goes low to the ground for a male, we own no roos, no drakes, like I said she's an only duck) my one chicken pecks at her eyes and pecks at her bill (she has skin missing under her eyes and damage to her bill from the pecking) I have separated her from everyone before she loses an eye (she's alone and I feel bad) and I've had two of my other hens fly at her, I'm planning to get ducks in the spring so she won't be an only duck but It seems I might have to get them sooner then later. Any idea why they'd be doing this to her?

Don't think there's anything else you can do, unless you can magically turn the chickens into ducks

When chickens taste blood(or their own eggs, for that matter), its hard to stop them
Poor pearl...

If you can keep her separate till spring...As long as she can still see the Chickens, she wont be lonely.....I have Chickens and Ducks....Mine hate each other....Two separate Coops and Runs........

Best of luck.....

Cheers!
