I am going to build a quail hutch, but before I do, I need to know what temperature the quail need. I live in Virginia and it got down to 14 last night.
 
I'm in central PA. My quail are on deep litter method/straw floor of their shed. I have upside down tupperware type containers throughout they can crawl into.

Four solid walls 4 feet high then chicken wire above connecting to a metal roof. During the winter I cover 98% of the chicken wire with tarps. When it's 20 or so outside it hovers around 39 or so inside. They just hunker down in the straw and do fine.

It has gotten colder.. my only issue is freezing water... but so far it hasn't been TOO big of an issue.

Quail are really cold hardy so long as there are no drafts and they don't get wet.

I'm in Southeast PA and tonight is suppose to be extremely cold. My quail are in a rabbit pen with plastic over them with wood roof to protect then from the rain. I hope they will survive. I had them in my garage last year but got an infestation of mice in the house so I put them outside for the spring, summer, and fall. Do you think they will be alright out there?
 
if they are acclimated to outside temps. if they can get out of the wind and are enough to covey up they will be ok.

I put a bunch of loose straw in mine on the blocked off side of the pen for them to root and snuggle into.

supposed to be -20 winchills thru the weekend

I cannot remember who in the forum mentioned she used a microwavable heat pad under the water bowl to stop it from freezing. The heatpad lasted about 4 hours. Try searching. If I find it I will post it here
