I agree that's a cockerel (young rooster). If you just purchased the bird, and paid for a pullet, the seller needs to make it right with you.

I agree with the above, pullets (young females) are plainer colored. The bright, flashy colors are male.

If you're unsure about gender, feel free to get pics before you purchase and post them here. There's usually someone around who can ID the gender for you and save you some headache.

I have contacted the seller but have not had a response. Hopefully he will take him back otherwise I will have to eat that $15

I am sorry, but if that guy did not know that was a cockerel with all the male feathering I would be shocked! Shame on him. I really hope he works with you.
 
I finally heard back from him. He said his mother won't take the rooster back but instead offered $5 off another hen. :mad:
 
Seriously? If they won't take the bird back (which I do understand from a bio security standpoint), they should refund you the entire amount. That bird is totally useless to you, and now you're stuck with dealing with him. I would not do business with those sellers again. The need to be willing to stand behind what they sell. Shame on them.

X2. Do not go back and buy another hen from them, it just means that they're gaining $25 from the whole ordeal. $15 for the original "hen" and $10 if you go and buy another "hen". And who knows, this "hen" may end up a cockerel like the last one did. I'm sorry this happened to you. :(
 
I live in NE Arkansas.

My friend who helped me build my coop wants him for his flock.

I will definitely NOT buy from this guy again!
