Chile
Hello. My name is Trimini and this is my boy Kevin. He is 9 months old. We live in Chile. Kevin was a house/farm warming gift from an exotic bird breeder who was our old neighbor. Kevin is my first bird and my very good friend. When I got him he was only one month old and it was the start of winter on the brink of a move. The timing was awkward and I had no idea what I was doing. But, we made it through the winter (reversed seasons here in South America). My husband and I build him a beautiful aviary and he loves it there. There is still more work to be done, like putting up more tall roosts for him, and toys. Kevin loves shiny things so he has some CDs, mirrors and crystals hanging all over the place. Last night he received his best gift yet, three young chickens (two hens and a rooster) moved in with him. He is being very good. He is establishing the pecking order for sure, but all in all everyone is very civilized.
Anyway, it´s been a few months of very had work, but now things are stable and there is tranquility in the aviary. Kevin is a huge mama´s boy. He likes being hand fed by me, he hangs out with me when I come in to eat my lunch or read, he even knows a few voice commands. He is not very social with other humans, but he is not aggressive either. He IS a thief though hehehehe, so hold on to your shiny things should you enter.

Here are some cool pictures we wanted to share.

Cheers

Beautiful boy, very nice pen. I don't know what your predators are but unless the gap (shown in your last picture) under the wire is much less that it looks, it won't keep, weasels, mink, or coons out.

Thank you. That wall with the gap is not a wall to the outside. It is on the side of another structure within the aviary. It is a giant man trap gate assembly. Through the wall that doesn't´t reach to the floor you can see the gate that reaches all the way to the ground. The entire perimeter is secured. We absolutely have predators, weasels, hawks, cats and dogs. So we took great care to make sure that the structure is super safe. Also, at night, everyone goes to a house that has four full walls, roof with meshed gaps, and the floor there has chicken wire mesh buried several inches down in case of someone digging their way up. The soil is extremely rocky here though and not digger friendly. We live on an old river bed.
But actually I am minutes away from meshing that gap, because it is big enough for chickens to slide though and get trapped in the man trap. :D So the gap will be eliminated for that purpose anyway.

I´m not sure my description of the shape of the aviary was clear. Here is a view from the outside. You can see the trap door structure inside. The sides of that trap door are the ones that don´t go all the way to ground. Yet.
