New from Brisbane Australia

Hi all, I used to be a chicken owner and loved all my girls. I have experienced every disease known to chooks. I mastered all cures and remedies only to lose my last 5 girls to a pack of loose dogs.

I am now renting a house where I cannot have chooks and I also discovered that taking half an hour to choose store bought eggs made me look a bit creepy, so rather than be interrogated by the store manager, I found an unregulated alternative to my fresh organic egg supply.

Yes little feather babies! My gorgeous 5 Jap quail girls are an absolute delight and an enjoyable interactive pet. We are now incubating 16 fertilised eggs due on 25 December 2016.

This is how I found the forum. Questions on identifying the viability of our eggs brought me here to discover some wonderful methods and here starts another chapter in our feather baby journey.

Below are my current girls. I am only getting 2-3 eggs per day and suspect that I have some old girls amoungst my flock. However I am a "pasture them" girl and will see them till the end. However it is time to replace my egg layers with new stock and enjoy the experience with my children.

Feel free to show me your egg hearts. I have discovered a few of late and my avatar is my favourite.

I saw your avatar and totally love the picture of your assortment. I then noticed your location. Nice.

I had pekins early on and loved them. Pangs and silkies, reds, whites, blacks and my beautiful blue leghorn. They all have such different personalities and I have shed many a tear as they turn to garden fertiliser. Until I am able to have more permanent digs I will stick to my little ones and dream of visiting you for some future girls. Thank-you!

Thank You! [Assuming you meant me and seen as I recently posted some pics of my coop ]

We battled for a long time with 1 x kit coop which, with chicken math, became 2 x kit coops joined together and when we needed even more room we gave up on those and built the coop we have now.

I don't know about majestic but it is definitely practical for our climate and the girls seem to think it is an improvement on their previously squishy accommodation

Pretty little birds you have and the heart egg is nice! Being able to keep quail is a good alternative to chickens and other poultry...a lot of times it seems regs allow them that don't allow other birds. Glad you are having fun with them.
