You can dub your leghorns' combs if they prove overly problematic for you. Many times nature takes care of that the first winter anyways. IMHO, I think intentional dubbing is far more humane than allowing them to continually frostbite. Dubbing can be done when the bird is healthy and in best condition, thereby ensuring quick healing time, whereas frostbite hits when birds systems are challenged by cold weather and is slow healing and painful.
Of course, one could argue that the most humane thing is that breeds not equipped for certain conditions not be made to live in those conditions.
