So I've hatched chicks a few times and have never had this happen. I have a copper Maran mixed with Easter egger and he's having a hard time. He lays on his back and can't get up, he also throws back his neck and doesn't open his eyes. His head doesn't look like it is shaped right either . I have tried placing him in a cup with tissues to help him sit up right, but he throws himself out. I have been giving him water with a pipet and he doesn't seem to understand how to drink . He has no interest in food either and won't open his mouth to eat ... I really feel like he is suffering and I don't know what to do.

Your chick probably is a "failure-to-thrive". There are probably genetic issues, malformed organs, etc. Usually when you notice external abnormalities, there are even more internal issues.

The best thing for a chick that can't even drink water on its own is to euthanize it. If you don't know how to do this, PM me and I'll tell you how. My method is bloodless and humane and the chick won't suffer.

I'm sorry to hear that one of your hatchlings is severely disabled...I know what that's like and commend you for your concern for the chick's quality of life. Best to both of you. :hugs
