My entire Flock Vanished from the coop overnight

I have been raising chickens for a few years now and I show them in 4H. I went outside to put my chickens out this morning to find that all 5 of them had vanished. all the latches were locked there were no holes in the coop or enclosed run that they could have gotten out of and there was a lock on the nesting box so predators could not get in that way. There was not a single feather to be found and there was no blood. I have did not hear any distressed clucking noises over night. I have no clue where they all could have gone because they were all locked in an indoor part of the coop so that they could stay warm in the cold weather. The area that they were in only had one door and I found it locked up tight in the morning but somehow all of my chickens were gone. I am really upset because I have been training my bantams for years to do well in showmanship. I have no idea what happened. Do you think someone might have taken them?

Maybe a two legged predator?
 
I agree it was person. Animal predators usually leave a mess of a scene, with feather and wounded birds. If everything was locked up, I think it was a person. Do you have pics of your coop?
 
I hope you decide to get chickens again, and if you do, I recommend you buy a no-glow trail camera. It takes pics day or night without any visible flash based on a motion sensor trigger, so if anyone goes in front of the camera, you will have pics. I say go with a no-glow because if you get a normal infrared flash camera, you can see the red flash if you are looking at the camera, and then they can take your chickens and your camera. I have 4 trail cameras by Browning and Primos, both make good cameras for about $100. No glow models will run a little more around $125 or so. You should also keep the coop under lock and key, with a deadbolt lock or padlock.

wow, this is sad, so sad. I agree, someone stole your birds. How sick is that? Sigh. Do you have an illegal immigrant issue in your neighborhood? ( don't yell at me now, I lived for years near San Diego and know how it can be.). Yeah, lock them up tight is best. Also motion sensor lights. I had neighborhood kids set my birds loose before but not steal them.( yes, I got them back). I am so sorry for your loss. Can you get replacements from the original breeder?

OMG! That's terrible, so very sorry to hear of this. Have you noticed anyone checking out your birds? I'd report the theft to the police, post notices around your area & humane society. Must do FB, social media may help get the word out.

3riverschick got a point.....I know of a guy that purchased a beautiful Serama Cock, had it in a locked cage....It got stolen, cage wires were cut and he knows it was one of his illegal workers. They kept admiring his bird, they all go fired. Also know of a little neighbor's girl Serama pair got stolen from their cage in their fenced yard!

I do agree w/ everybody that said it was probably people. That's is a total bummer. Did you notice any footprints out of the ordinary?
I would also make a report about it in case there's other farms around getting robbed.
Some cameras are a good idea too. You'd be surprised what you'll catch sneaking into your yard.
Again, sorry you lost your birdies. :-(
 
The police could fingerprint the lock if you haven't handled it to much. It just seems odd the lock was locked back up. That makes no sense.
