I'm really sorry. Please don't beat yourself up about it. As I posted to another member who is grieving today, at one time or another we've each looked back and wondered what we could have done differently....in all matters of life. Now you can continue to give testimony and warn others.
It has been my experience that when people lose loved ones (human or otherwise), it helps the grieving process to share pictures of them or stories about them. Do you have any pictures of your chickens that you'd like to share?
My girls had a wonderful life with me from day one when they were just eggs in a box coming via usps....I made sure I was here to accept the package. Let them warm up and settle...I lovingly turned each egg by hand always washing my hands vigorously before and after. Then, 21 days later...Chicks!
They grew bigger really fast! Showed me how chickeny they could be!
I raised them in the basement for far too long while the coop was built. At first they didn't know how to roost and they all slept in a pile! But then they got the gist..
Then they started laying eggs!
They laid for five weeks...and then I lost them all.
