My girls had a wonderful life with me from day one when they were just eggs in a box coming via usps....I made sure I was here to accept the package. Let them warm up and settle...I lovingly turned each egg by hand always washing my hands vigorously before and after. Then, 21 days later...Chicks!

They grew bigger really fast! Showed me how chickeny they could be!

I raised them in the basement for far too long while the coop was built. At first they didn't know how to roost and they all slept in a pile! But then they got the gist..

What cute chicks! I especially like the white one with the light brown "bottom." That package from USPS is so exciting! When I have chicks come through the mail, the postal workers are always so anxious for me to get there so they can take a peak into the chirping box!

After you've had time to mourn, I hope you'll rebuild your coop and your flock. You're obviously a devoted chicken-mama.

Thanks...I plan to eventually. That little girl was my Salmon Faverolles named Simone. She was a sweetheart.

They are the nicest tempered chickens I've ever had. Her sister Penny survived because she was in quarantine during the fire...

Something similar happened to me but not with chickens. When I picked out a boxer from a litter the local humane society had rescued, the whole litter died within days from parvo, except for one. She was separated from the rest and was being treated with antibiotics because of a head trauma suffered from the litter being dumped on the road. I have had her for five years this month. She's the best dog I've ever had.

Funny how things work out sometimes.

I'm incubating a variety of eggs right now including Svart Honas. Thank you so much to ChocolateMouse and Lisa at Cedar Crest Farm for their loving support empathy and help!

A GFCI will however trips if a rodent should happen to gnaw through an extension cord or if the cord should become cracked, frayed or short circuited for what ever reason and if water should seep into multiple extension cords at plug unions. Regular fuses and circuit breakers "ARE THE CAUSE" of some electrical coop fires and are not designed to trip in these cases. Especially when extension cords are in play.
