Hello ,
Hope all you out there are doing fine. I need help regarding my red golden female pheasant. She is not eating or drinking by her own . We are helping her to eat some fruits and soked bread. She just stands with fluffy feathers as she is having cold. I have attached a light bulb at her cage. She is popping just like dark green along with some raddish brown tints.

Now I wanted to give her medicine. Are Sulfamethazine Sodium, Sulfadimidine, and others sulfa based medications are same to treat coccidiosis ? Any advice will be highly appreciated...

Thanks.

Can work with that, but,a broad spectrum antibiotic may work better.I don't think she has coccidiosis as they would have large amounts of whitish droppings.Try giving some vitamins and electrolytes too.
What do you feed them?

Her recent pics and poo pic.

There are some sunflowers and cracked corn pieces in her poo. And some red tints. What else can it be ?

Bacterial , fungal or viral ?

My vet also has prescribed Nystatin drops.

But no improvement. She is getting weak day by day.

Thanks

Vets don't know much about pheasants,in fact there are very few that will even look at any bird.I would try some cranberry juice and then give them a dose of vitamins and electrolytes.

Yes..It seems to be like that. We are hand feeding her some apple chunks, banana mesh , cucumber , boiled eggs . She is not active at all. In the begining I have thought that she would have coccidiosis or other bacterial infection..But now the medicines have been given but no improvement so far.

Now I suspect it must be a sort of fungal infection. I guess I must have given her fluconazole or itraconazole or Nystatin drops . There is some sort of gas and bloating in her crop when I checked her yesterday while feeding her.

She is in this condition now for the past 5 days. Given her prescribed medications but no improvement.

What are the common diseases that cause this sort of behaviour in pheasants in winters?

Thanks a lot for your kind response.
