I HATE Bumblefoot!

Sounds like my problem, only I can't seem to get anything out. Her's just looks like a little hole in the pad of the toe. I used needle, tweezers and squeezed. But nothing. The toe is swollen but today there was no limp. I'll just watch her, I am sure it hasn't healed up, I think she is saying "I won't limp around that lady, she does things to me that hurt!!". LOL

Glad yours are doing better, I just hope mine goes as well.

How hard are you squeezing? I had to squeeze pretty hard before anything came out, and that was with my husband clamped onto her. Definitely not for the squeamish or soft-hearted. :( But as I told my mom this morning, I'd rather have a scared duck who's alive than a calm duck who's dead.

I sprayed her foot again with Blu-Kote this morning (which I'm sure was washed off in her immediate bath afterwards) and tried to take a new photo. It is significantly harder to photograph a wiggling duck with her foot mostly upside down while only using one hand.

Edited to add: even after poor Buff's traumatic "foot violating" two days in a row, that plucky ducky is still laying eggs! What a good girl!

I have read that squeezing can increase risk of getting infection into the bloodstream. I wanted to share that as a heads up. The clear iodine method seems to work without cutting or squeezing.

When you use the clear iodine do you bandage the foot afterwards? Do you soak a gauze pad with iodine to put in the bandage? I don't see how the meds can stay on long enough to do any good.

I have ordered some "birdy booties" for this problem of bandaging so hopefully if she starts limping again I can have something to "bandage" it with. Would you put a bandaid under the bootie?

Thanks!
Mandy

No need to bandage the foot. The clear iodine (clear - not brown) soaks through the skin, apparently.

Thank you for that information. This community is so lucky to have you as a part of it.

I had purchased some iodine before, based on reading your posts (CLEAR iodine not brown - clear ;) ) so I will apply some to her foot today. I have some liquid medication type syringes (the kind that doesn't have a needle) so I may use that to avoid dousing her entire underside with it.

I'll see if I can take another blurry out of focus photo too.

My clear iodine came with an applicator in the cap. You may not need the syringes.
