Grow out pen/coop advice please

The larger one is 5x7, adjustable height with slider door...but I had to add a piece of wood to narrow down the width as my slimmer hens could get thru. The smaller ones are 4" high, adjustable width, had to close down to a 3.5" width to deter same slimline hens. Building adjustable doors was more of a challenge..and more time-materials-brain work, but worth the adjustability in the long run. .....and luckily I tested the doors before chicks were out there, it was funny watching the bigger hens try to get thru.... ...and then the skinny ones after my adjustments. ETA looking for pic.
You engineers make things too complicated for us builders! LOL. Seriously though, it looks you just routed a slot in 1/4" plywood and used bolts, washers and wing nuts. About right? I think the doors are going to be my biggest challenge. My OEGB is the size of a 5 week old chick and my other bantam is the size of a 2 month old. And they both love to steal chick starter!

Sounds like it should work well. :thumbsup

Rereading your post for clarification. Generally speaking at 5-6 weeks they are locked down in the grow out area. 6-8 weeks they get look but don't touch run privileges, then up to 12 weeks they are free to come and go. At about 12 weeks, if things are calm and smooth, they are locked out of the grow out area. Does that sound right?

Haha... yeah, yeah....kind of 'reverse engineered' this stuff.....knew what I wanted, and figured out how to fabricate it to fit and function.
Actually used a drill and jigsaw to cut that slot....wing nuts have built in 'washers', bolt is a carriage bolt.
I did use a table mounted router to cut slider frames for larger sliding door in the center.
Plywood is laun, a floor underlayment, just under 1/4" thk and cheap at ~$18 for a 4x8 sheet.

Not sure this will work with those tiny older birds....but I feed an all flock to everyone.

That's pretty much it. I do have a large main coop.
