Are you asking about breeds that would mix with Rhode Island Reds?

The last RIR's I had were in a mixed flock with red sex links, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Black Australorps, Easter Egger and Speckled Sussex. They all got along pretty well except the BA's caused a lot of drama (apparently not usual for them). The SS were the most timid in the mixed flock but didn't have any trouble with the RIR's.

How well they all get along can depend on if they were all raised together, making sure crowding in the coop/run isn't a problem, the individual bird's personality (some birds are more dominant than others regardless of breed) and if all the birds are similar in size...for example, I wouldn't put RIR's and silkies together. Another big factor is if they have been properly integrated...read up on the "look but can't touch" ways of adding new birds.

Thanks for that. i actually live in Ireland so do you think we would have easter eggers and the others you mentioned. and i read another review that said that a guy had d'Uccles are they any good you think ???? do you think Ireland would have them.????? we have a pretty good sale in our local town so will look out for them. if you have time i am looking for a good breed of rooster an my mum wants a multi coloured rooster and a good breed for successful layers.

D'Uccles would definitely not be a good choice if you want really good egg layers... also they are bantams, not standard sized...

I'm not too familiar with what Ireland has, but maybe @sumi can pop in and have some suggestions? Good luck in your search!
 
@Glenroo13 where in Ireland do you live? (County) I've kept a mixed flock here including RIR, Leghorns and Bluebells. The Bluebells are fantastic layers and have really nice temperaments too. They are actually a hybrid created by crossing RIR with Marans. So if you're after good egg layers, you can't go wrong with them.
 
@Glenroo13 did you get your chickens ordered yet? I bumped into a poultry merchant I know yesterday and asked where he delivers to. He is based in Macroom, but delivers all over, including Co Kerry. He told me he has a big variety of layer breeds and some others available, if you're interested let me know and I'll PM you his phone number. I highly recommend him as I've seen his stock and they are good birds and healthy!
 
yes i would love to look into his breed selection and possibly maybe purchase a rooster although I myself know someone who might have a rooster for me but just in case she doesn't so please mp the phone number and if interested in a few rodes next year i hope to breed my chickens in the spring so please let me know if you want any and my phone number is 087-698-3043 thanks so much talk soon Glenroo.
