African Geese

I think of all the goose breeds the african fits my needs and my aesthetic, but I would like to hear reviews from people who keep them.
Ive read that they are good weeders and excellent watch dogs, does anyone have an idea of this? I have also read that they can be aggressive but can also become very tame if raised from goslings. And that they are among the leaner of the large goose breeds. But reliable stuff is sometimes hard to find, so I wanted firsthand accounts.
 
They are very nice geese. Not as loud as Chinese but will let you now if someone/something is around that they don't know. They can be aggressive but so can all breeds of geese. Larger breed so they don't fly well. As far as size there is a vast difference between hatchery Africans "which are often Chinese/African crosses" and the pure/show/breeder quality Africans. The exhibition Africans are huge geese.

One of my favorite geese was Trudy, she was an African. She and her mate George "also and African" were the sweetest geese. After George died at the age of 17 Trudy never laid or took another mate again. She was such a sweetheart. She'd follow me everywhere begging for treats. And she loveed to have her head and neck petted. Sadly Trudy died a few years ago at the ripe ole age of 24.

Alright then, Ill remember that when purchasing. Might get super africans.
How would you rate their laying?

And thats super sweet/sad. Ive read that many geese are monogamous given the choice.
 
Ours were AWESOME watchdogs! So awesome, in fact, that we had to rehome them lol....


They imprinted on just me, and as they got older, would honk and squeal like crazy whenever the kids went out into the yard, and kinda drive me nuts lol.. But they were so much fun!
