Please help!! I am a first time guinea owner and I love them BUT.........They love to perch on the side of my above ground pool. I found one floating, as we have lowered it for the winter so it wasnt able to get out. I was sad over loosing my guinea but even sadder that it tore up my liner trying to get out. Anyone know of something they dont like I could put on the rails of my pool to keep them off?? If not I may have to give them to my son, which I want to keep them. Thanks

Sorry to hear you lost the poor guinea, it must have been frantic to get out. Guineas come and go as they please & like to roost high. I would suggest you give them to your son., if he doesn't have a pool.

I would think you would have to make a huge, wire cage around & OVER your pool to keep guineas out or have the guineas in a large secure run with top. I don't know if people successfully can raise them confined.

Put "Guineas" in the searchbox and their thread will pop up. I think any kind of bird would have the same bad ending- they don't realize the danger in exploration. Have you noticed how tiny guinea heads are - not rocket scientists for sure.

Hello!
400

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. Sorry about your loss. Maybe a bit of chicken wire?

Greetings from Kansas, Redsparks57, and :welcome! Pleased you joined us but sorry to hear about your guinea situation. I have a few of the bandits running around and from my experience nothing scares them. When something new or unusual arrives on the scene they are much noisier than usual (if that's possible) but normally get very close to whatever it is to investigate...lawnmower, weedeater, cat...you name it. I agree with some of the earlier posts about some type of "ladder" for the next one that wants to take a dip. Best of luck to you!

G’Day from down under Redsparks57 Welcome!

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your guinea and also that you have this dilemma.

This is probably a crazy idea but I will throw it out there anyways … I saw this the other day:

Ok, so it is to keep cats in, but I wonder if you could rig something similar around your pool. Something that oscilates when they try and land on it

I do hope that you are able to rectify the issue and get to keep your guineas.

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Thank you!! That is definitely something to think about. It might work, I hate to have to give up my guineas, they are sitting on the pool rail right now as I am typing this! lol...
