Prolapse vent??

Yes, and she just pushes back when I try to push it in.

How's she doing?

Try to keep her in a darkened area. If you haven't done so, feel inside the vent about an 1" or so - does it feel like an egg may be trying to come back out?
Also is she pooping?

If the tissue is really swollen then it may need to reduce in size to stay in. Keep the cream on the exposed tissue - hopefully the swelling will go down and be able to go back in.

she seems to be getting better but I cannot get it back in all the way. The dark looking stuff I can't tell if the prolapse is just dried out or if it's caked on poop. I soaked her twice a day and wipe her up multiple times a day. It does seem to be shrinking tho.

Poor thing. The darkness could be the prolapse tissue drying up - possibly dying. I know you are frustrated with this.

Do the best you can and keep the tissue moist with ointment. Hopefully it will start to reduce so it will go back in.

Do you have a vet that will see her?

Yay!!! Just checked on her this morning and she no longer has a prolapse!!!! I just putting hemroid cream on it and it went in on its own. I of course kept up with soaking and cleaning her but I didn't try and push it back in as it seemed to make it worse when I did. She has runny poops but seems to be pooping okay! Will still keep updating!! Thank you for the support and help!

Glad to hear it finally went back in!

Please please keep us posted on her progress, you have done a good job in taking care of her.

It looks like a prolapse to me.  Give her a good soaking in a warm bath with epsom salts added to the water.  Clean off the poop really well (the white stuff).  Apply some hemorrhoid cream or honey to help reduce swelling and see if you can gently push the prolapse back in.   Offer her some extra calcium (crushed Tums, yogurt, liquid calcium - this will help her retract the prolapse).  You may need to repeat the steps.  If it keeps coming out, keep the exposed tissue moist with cream/honey.

Make sure she is well hydrated.  Offer some poultry vitamins in her water.  Food is secondary - offer her normal feed with a little chopped egg or tuna for extra protein.

Here is more details on treatment:

I too have a hen with a prolapse that won't go back in. How long should I give it to go back in?
