I received had one of my ducks pass away he was very spoiled and l spent most of my time with him recently l have found myself longing for a nother duck. The last duck l had had a back injury so he lived in the garage this new duck l would like to live outside bit l need some ideas on a house for her/him.

If you have pictures please post them

If you are housing it outside, you need more than 1 duck. A single duck needs a lot of attention. If you are going to keep the new one outside, get at least 2, 3 would be better.

What type of ducks are you considering? That will help with housing suggestions as bigger ducks will obviously need a larger space.

I live in a mild climate, so mine are in their house just for night. I started off with a dog house kit from Lowe's and it was fine for 3 indian runners. Not find for more or larger birds. I did add a door so we could lock them in at night.

I'm following this thread as well. I'd like to put some ducks on our pond and put their house on the island in the pond. Is there a rule of thumb on space like there is for chickens?

Yes l would love to get more than one duck but the one l am getting has never been with other ducks seeing as he beets them up he is a pecan male

I put a open bottomed house on my island and they have never used it. They used to sit on the island before I put the house there. I guess I will have to take the boat out and remove it.
I also set up a 16x8 pin for them and we can never get them in. Any idea of how to get them to go in? Food is not working to lure them in

So where do they go for shelter? I'm thinking about getting some ducklings early summer and setting them up on the island to begin with. Then as they get old enough and fully feathered remove the fence so they can come and go at will.

I'm about to built a duck house. From what I've seen I'm planning a dog kennel sized house with a roof the can be opened to clean and collect eggs. They say a wider door than chickens as ducks stampede and can get two stuck in the door. Must have plenty of ventilation as ducks let off moisture.

I have finished building my duck house l think it looks pretty good l have used you ideas and some l got from around BYC l am picking the duck up later

I just got him home he is very beautiful and a little shy but he will warm up to me l have named him Master Quacker unfortunately I am yet to discover how to post pics despite the help of some BYCers l will try once more though
