It is me again, and my doves are nesting in their food bowl now.

My diamond doves abandoned their nest after we put the robin house thing in, and instead of doing what we expected them to do, use the robin box... They tossed the millet out of their food bowl and filled it with hay, turning it into a nest. They do eat the millet that we give the quails so I am not that concerned as I know they still have a source of food, but it is still strange. XD

They prefer open nest bowl type like lil box clipped to corners of back of cage just upout of reach of Quail maybe. There are lil nesting bowls that clip onto cage, as well as more rounded feeders waterers and baths that also work well clipped onto low cage place leaving enough room for birds to run under.

There is plenty of room for the doves to fly about and their nests they could use are elevated and the robin nest is elevated too, but the one they picked now, their food bowl, is closer to the ground which really confused me. They are in a large parrot cage so both the quails and doves have plenty of room, as it is both tall and wide.

They did nest in a nesting bowl I provided, but they accidentally pushed the eggs out and the quails ate them, and then after I put the robin nest in they removed all the hay from the nest and then made a nest in the food bowl... At least the eggs won't be able to roll out of that I guess.

The old nest.

The new, uh, nest. XD The doves can lay in it too due to the size, so incubation won't be an issue either really. But I dunno if two week old doves will be able to both sit in it, so I may need to hand-rear one when it reaches that stage if the doves lay eggs and have both eggs hatch.

Nice. Beautiful birds. My ringnecks liked using an oblong metal birdbath kinda wbig water bowl found usually in rabbit section for dollar at feed store. Was using as everything but when tried using as birdbath they dragged hay in n nested so I dried n put fresh hay in. Doves love ground nesting and in hanging pots otherwise seeming mostly. Guess why most have breeder cages and flights/aviaries. I just kept in aviary flight n let quail lay in dove nest, marking eggs keeping n eating etc rest fresh.
