Reclaimed Wood

Those are super nice. I am so excited to get mine started. Need to wait for more snow to melt first. I have about 6 pallets worth of wood and getting more this week. Can only carry so many pallets in my tiny Ford Focus. Pulling the pallets apart has been an interesting experience though xD Anyone who has done it will know what I mean.

I ended up buying an inexpensive reciprocating saw from Harbor Freight. It was well worth the expense (HF has 20% off coupons making it even cheaper) as it makes disassembling pallets much easier and I don't break so many boards. I also like that it cuts the nails often leaving the nailhead imbedded in the wood. The rustic look of the nail heads is a nice effect.

Saws all is the easiest way I found to take pallets apart. I started with a hammer and crowbar but that was ridiculous and I broke a lot of wood.
This is what I am doing right now too, luckily I only broke 2 boards but I am trying to be soooo careful so it takes almost an hour to pull a pallet apart. I have to wait for my days off to do it. Ack

I might end up doing this instead. Seem's like a faster option and been watching video's on this on youtube. I also like the nail heads staying in place, seems cool. Especally if I do my rustic Saloon styled chicken house.

If you want to make sure the nail heads stay on, put a piece of tape on them before cutting, then a dab of clear drying glue on the underside after. They don't always stay on by themselves. Good luck with your coop! Sounds awesome!
