Shells are (too) hard?

Should we switch to a feed that's lower in calcium, or is that normal? (Harder than your store bought eggs) They definitely are hard to crack, but normal shape / hens all seem healthy.

If they don't have calcium deposits (rough crusty areas) they are probably normal.

A better way than giving layer feed (in my opinion, at least) is to feed an all flock type feed and offer oyster shell and crushed eggshells on the side. Then the hens consume the calcium as needed. I can't find all flock pellets where I am so I feed them meat bird pellets from my local feed store.

Some 'home grown' egg shells are much harder than store bought.
Calcium is not just for shell making,
it also helps with muscle contractions to get the egg down the 'pipe',
so shorting them on it is not a good idea
