Walter is a 2.6 bantam cornish - we think he had/has Coryza. Swollen side of face, yellow mucus in nose (smells a bit) eye swollen shut, etc. Vet put him on Baytril injections .3 of the 2.7% solutions for 5-7 days. He was also on Metronidazole for 10 days because we could also see cankers in mouth.
He got better - cankers started to go away - sinus and swelling went down - Walter was looking GOOD. He went back out with others. 3 days later, Walter's nose is full of dirt from digging, his eye was swollen shut this morning and he looks like it's starting to come back or RELAPSE on him.
I don't think vet gave him Baytril either strong enough or for long enough. NOW we are going with the TABLETS because no more shots for Walter (bruising). We have the 22.7mg tabs. He weighs 2lbs-6oz. I have seen everything from 5mg twice a day to 5mg once a day and all other types of dosages on the Baytril site and all over.
Vet said 1/4 tab which is about 5.6mg - ONCE A DAY for Walter. Is this enough? I have read too much Baytril dosing for a while over time (10 days) will cause yeast infection (thrush) and other problems and that it is better to go LOW AND SLOW with it and knock it out.
I am taking culture sample to vet tomorrow but will take 3-5 days - the BAYTRIL worked, but maybe we stopped too early last time or the IM injections weren't strong enough. Going to do Baytril again now while waiting for culture.
NEED HELP FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE DEALT WITH THIS and know dosages for the tablets and what is the best length of time and mg dosage for POULTRY. He is a Bantam 2lbs/6oz.
