While shutting up the chickens for the night, I found that my rooster was entangled in some deer netting that had come loose. After freeing him, I realized that his neck is now crooked and he is holding his head to the side.

He was fine this morning, so now I'm not sure if he's ill, traumatized, or injured.

I would imagine traumatized and possibly injured. Chickens do alot of thrashing around trying to get free if they get stuck i would keep him in a kennel for the night and see how he is in the morning. Make sure he can eat and drink in the morning. May very well be injured

Thank you both. He wasn't crazy about my neck massaging skills.

I'm hoping he just sprained or wrenched his neck. Sometimes he turns it almost normal.

Do you have a estimate on how long he was tangled? .Those type of things are very stressful to chickens. As the other poster said keep him inside with food and water and offer eggs and tuna.

I'm going to guess a couple of hours, because it looked as if he were trying to go into the coop and they do that around 5 or so.

The bad news is that his neck is still wonky this morning.

The good news is that he doesn't seem too bothered, and he's eating normally.

Thats great that he is still able to eat and drink.
If he has an injury it may take a while for it to heal.
Keep an eye on him and make sure he isnt suffering
