Hi All, Delighted to see there is help out there. We recently got 6 chicks. All are fine but 1 little one. Standing around with wings drooped and constantly chirping. Others gather around like to comfort. It is eating & drinking but eyes are closed most of the time. Any suggestions would be a great help.

Sorry to hear your one little chick isn't doing well. Sometimes they just don't thrive or something could be wrong with it. If you want some advice you can try posting on the ER forum:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

I'd separate the droopy one as the others could well start harassing it (chickens are merciless to ill or injured ones).

Good luck to you!

Hi and welcome to BYC - sorry to hear about your chick. I hope the ER guys can help you out. Some vitamin supplements / electrolytes would at worst do no harm - if you have any to hand, then you could add that to their water.

Good luck

Are you sure it is eating and drinking, and pooping? It may be pushed away from the feeder & water. If it chirps a lot - it may be cold. Sometimes when chicks are removed from the others and kept warm and maybe tempted with scrambled eggs, or warmed oatmeal - they may eat better. You could also give 2 drops of infant drops (NO IRON) 3 times a day to give it a boost. Have you checked for pasty butt?

Chicks can quickly turn into bullies and attack and sometimes kill any that appear weak or sick.

Welcome!

As you have already received some great advice I will just add that I hope your little one is OK.

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

The same thing happened to me. I just got 6 1-week old chicks and one of the reds has droopy wings and seems to be sleeping all the time. I think she's eating and drinking too but she always seems to be by herself. Did yours make it?
