Soi have a rat problem and it seems they can escape my traps too. I have decided to go with poison but a homemade version. Does anyone have any recipes that have worked?

Have you tried the homemade bucket traps made with the spinning bottle and filled with water?
Hard to imagine a rat escaping that.
I've heard that mixing grain with plaster of Paris works.
They get some of the plaster in their stomachs eating the grain then it hardens up.
It's a slow death though.
Honestly I don't like the idea of playing with poisonous stuff more than I have to so I'm with talkalittle and recommend buying commercial made products.

I've never tried it but old timers say grain mixed in with concrete works. When the rats eat the concrete grain mixture the concrete will harden in there system therefore killing the rat. I don't like this idea but if you got a real problem what can you do?

I had to use a large raccoon size trap. I did buy an electronic trap too but caught him in the live trap before it arrived. The other I got with poison. Those guys are tough to get.

Mix peanut butter and plaster of paris equal parts together with a bit of vegetable oil for consistency.

Roll into marble sized balls.

Do not use water...

Place where you would poison.

When the balls stop disappearing, the rats will stop appearing.

I like this idea. The problem I have with commercial products is the rats poop the poison out, they have managed to get on top of my chook house. The gutters from the roof feed the tanks that the chooks drink from so unless I can keep them off of my roof I need no poisonous poison.
