Will soon. The comb is very red meaning it won't be long now. 5 months is not long to wait for first egg, 24 weeks is very normal but it's still the mean. Birds can lay sooner or much later than that time. Again, by the looks of that red comb your sex links are about to drop an egg so that's right in the 24 week norm.

Most pullets start laying anywhere from 4-12 months, with 5-6 months being the average start date. Breeding and feeding can affect it as well as time of year.

I have 20 RIR that are 19 weeks and some are much bigger then others, don't ask me why. The bigger ones have had very red combs for a couple weeks now and Im expecting some to start laying soon. But as the previous post say early march is when I expect to be over run with eggs

I got my first set of hens last April and 1 hen was laying at about 20 weeks the last one just started giving me regular eggs at 30 weeks, Also Ive read Its slower this time of year because of the short days.
