Ducks made a mess of garden.

So the ducks have dug holes and waddled all over the grass and now there is none left but it is all sludgy now, which is the worst part so what can I do to fix it? My dad suggests astroturf but I am concerned about their feet, I cannot keep it in its current state as my precious birds are getting filthy and getting everything else filthy too in the process.

Great to have another poultry lover!
My Chickens started to do that a little bit too, not that bad though. If you don't have any where else to put them or free range them I would say too fence off some of the garden and plant new grass seed. Let it grow and once its good and strong let them over there and do the same too the other side.

I feel your pain! I currently live in Canada and we are apparently not having a winter this year. Everything keeps freezing and melting and freezing and melting and I am left with a lot of mud . The one thing you have to really make sure of is that the ducks are constantly cleaning themselves of the mud, the mud can strip oils from their feathers and when the ducks become wet they will have a problem drying. So keep that in mind if one of the docs is looking like it has been dirty for a few days and hasn't gotten clean make sure you give it a good bath and even possibly give it a chance to dry it self. In terms of the mud you should look into making them a pen I believe ducks need 7 ft.² per dog if that's not possible then I'm sorry to say it but you're looking at dealing with all that mud... the price you pay for having messy ducks lol. I wouldn't get Astroturf because you want to be able to have your ducks forage.

Here's part of our backyard that our five ducks have ruined. My husband calls it a "quackmire" lol. He also says that they now own my vegetable garden. They can even get into the 1.5 foot raised bed! Still worth it though.

Hey, I got an idea. Wet the dirt in your garden, let em run wild, dig holes, poop all over, then turn it over and plant stuff! It will all be fertilized

Ya that's what my backyard looks like... except the pen has no more grass, so we let them out and they have literally turned the rest of the yard back to mud. Good thing I love them. Things will dry up in the summer or sunny days.

Yeah, I'm on the "what yard?" train, too. The ducks were doing fine on 1/4 acre, but when the chickens joined them all bets were off. I have a mucky mud pit. Or dirt desert, depending on the day. If they weren't so happy to see me every time I came out, they would be gone.

Darn those ducks and chickens for being so precious

My only advice is that if you have a bit of land to work with, migrate them around in a duck tractor.
