We have some new girls and this one has an eye issue that came on about 2 weeks ago. Thought it might clear up on it's own so left it alone. This morning it was swollen, though it seems she can still see out of it. Never had eye worm before so I'm not sure.

Would like to know what it is and how best to treat. Thanks.

I've got something similar with a hen that's had a swollen eye and like you, I left it be for a few days but it wasn't getting better. I have her separated and we've been removing pus from her eye about every other day and applying Teramycin daily. It's been about 2 weeks now and it doesn't seem to be clearing up so I'm not sure where to go from here. I guess we'll continue to treat her and see how it goes. I'm pretty sure it's not coryza or any other respiratory disease because she doesn't have any of the symptoms; there's no odor or sinus discharge that I can tell.

Yours looks like she has pus in her eye. Have you tried removing it? Is there an odor coming from her beak area? It doesn't look like it's swollen too bad yet.

Sorry about your girl, nothing worse than when your ladies aren't their best.

She has no other symptoms. No respiratory, no foul smells, normal appetite, normal stools, no fever. Started VetRX tonight and will continue in the am for a few days. Have not tried removing anything just yet. Will re-evaluate tomorrow.

Yeah she sounds exactly like mine. Are you sure you don't have my hen? Seriously though, I'm certainly no vet but it really does look like they're having the same issue. If you haven't done it yet you might want to wrap her in a towel to keep her from moving around and gently squeeze the pus out of her eye. It'd be easier if you can get someone to help hold her while you do it. Normally I hold my bird while my wife first squeezes out what she can, and then she takes a Q-tip and pushes as much out as she can get. We never get it all out but we've gotten a couple of good sized chunks out. I've read chicken pus isn't like human pus - it's harder like cheese. That's what we found out too. Not that I'm a pus analyst or anything but it it's helpful to know because it can irritate the eye moreso if not removed. Anyway I'd try to remove what I could if I were in your shoes. Don't be bothered if she doesn't like it because she'll recoil when you get to work but it's something you gotta do to help her. If I find out anything else I'll let you know.

It was a worm! After 2 days of applying VetRX, 2x daily, that thing came backing out of her eye. Am praying for full recovery for her and her eye.

Right on the eye itself. Then applied Young Living Para Free (gel cap squirted) in between her should blades.
Did not pull the worm out for fear of breaking it inside her so I'm letting it back itself out. She had no pus or crud, just that darn worm.
Her eye looks better today, will continue with above routine until clear.
