Hi everyone: Well my chickens all got out the other day and now everyone is mixed not sure I even have everyone in the correct pens. I have 24 all together and realizing I need to start figuring out who is a Hen and who is a rooster. This one pen I have 11 chickens and no one is laying. Not sure if they are ready yet. I'm not sure on the ages cause now everyone is mixed however I had one set of chicks on 8/26/16 and the others on 9/30/16. Can I get some help here. It is cold and rainy here Im hoping that is why this group is not laying not because they are ALL roosters

Thank you for your help!

Off the top of my head...

cockerels 1,2,6,7

pullets 3,4,5,8 and 9

A better pic of bird 1 will help confirm. I'm pretty sure I see saddle feathers on 2, but a better pic would also help. Pretty sure on the others.

They all definitely look like roosters to me.

Naaa....just kidding. If you got the earliest batch on 8/26/16 then that makes them about 5 months old or 25 weeks. They should be close to laying if they aren't already but a lot depends on the breed and hours of daylight, which of course are short right now. I don't know what kind of nest box setup you have, but if they are laying make sure they're not laying somewhere else or eating the eggs. I wouldn't even worry about it though at this point since it's the middle of winter and they're around about old enough to start laying but it can vary by several weeks. On most breeds you should notice their combs reddening just before they start laying. You'll be fine, just give 'em a little more time.

1,2,6,&7 are cockerels. I'm thinking 3 might be as well, need a better picture. 4,5,8,&9 are for sure pullets.

Mine 8 girls were hatched on 8/10/2016 and only just this week have I been getting eggs..only 3 are laying so far, So..you may need to wait a few more weeks til you see any eggs.
