Hello

Just trying to work out gender and age on the white one in front. I was told when I picked it up 3 weeks ago he was 70% sure it was a pullet. I cannot remember what cross breed it is, im guessing 10-15 weeks? (Im Aus and new to chickens).

Thanks for any help,

Hey
I think you're about right on both counts, it looks like a pullet and the age should be about right. A more clear picture of the head might make it easier to determine gender, also, since you have them for 3 weeks already, did you notice them going through molting process?

Thanks Bronco, see picture below. When we got them they were a little light on feathers i assume they were molting then. The comb is the only thing that concerns me but I am new to chickens and read its not the best indicator.

Yes, the combs can be tricky, especially if you don't know what parents your chicken has. If they have gone through the mini-molt they should get through another one in about a month, they'll get their adult plummage then and also the combs and wattles should become more prominent. Here are my wyandotte x red sex-link cross chicks at nearly 4 months old and about in the phase I'm talking about. Notice the cockerel in the back has a more prominent comb and wattles. Maybe someone with more experience in other breeds can tell you more about that, but I've found that the easiest way of determining the gender of my wynadottes are wattles, that are always bigger in cockerels, and the difference starts to show at about 2+ months of age.

Yes I can see that, thanks for the info! I think its along the lines of light sussex x australorp. The other one not in the picture but same age is an isa brown x orpington
