Hi all,
I was soooo eggcited to find Silkies at my local Rural King. I bought two. They seemed healthy and I cleaned pasty butt on my yellowish girl (Lucinda) for three days. She wobbled a bit like a drunk but overall was very vocal and sweet and lovable. Yesterday I came home and she had died. The other silkie was just fine. I have a couple of questions since this is my first ever chick to pass away randomly. 1. Are they a delicate breed? 2. Is this common? 3. What could have happened? I loved her so much. I made sure she wasn't all blocked up. She ate and drank just fine. :( I'm so sad.

TIA

Oh I am sorry for your loss.
Silkies like company. Go get a couple more . Contact Sonoran Silkie here on BYC. See URL at top of post.
She is very knowledgeable and experienced with Silkies and can answer your questions. Also, buy a smallest bottle pf Bovidr Labs Poultry Nutri-drench.. http://www.nutridrench.com It's a great all natural nutritional supplement which really helps fight travel stress in shipped and feed store chicks. Doesn't need digesting. Doesn't interfere with regular diet as it shunts to the bloodstream before reaching the intestine. Give your chick one drop only by mouth. If the chick looks needy, repeat every 8-10 hours until perky. Then put in their water for 2 weeks to get them off to a strong start. The water should look like weak tea.
Best,
Karen
