Okay, not really sure this is the right section but I figured ponds can be part of gardens, right? Please move it if it's not in the right spot.
Anyway, we want to build a pond in the backyard and I could use some help.
We do have a very small pond in the front garden/walkway that's been there for years but we've never really done anything with it. I don't know how big it is but it's pretty small. But we want to build a new one that will actually look nice.
Sooo..
What's the best way to go about this?
Buying a pond liner? Buying a stock tank and repurposing it or? Seems like those (stock tanks) are pretty expensive and small too.
I did find this pond liner and was wondering if it was a good deal?

I guess I could use somd help and advice on building the pond too. Do you just like clear an area and dig a hole and just set the liner in or? We've let the area get kind of wild with tall grass and bushes and probably weeds so I guess we'd need to do some clearing first.
And then once we get the pond built, I'm assuming we need some sort of filter or pump? We've never had a pond before and I can barely keep a fish tank so this is all new and need a lot of help on maintenance.
And, finally, about the gardening.... I know how we design it really comes to personal preference but does anyone have any pictures of their or other ponds to help with inspiration? Or have any ideas of what sorts of plants (or rocks, decorations, etc.) would look nice around the pond? Or water plants for in it?
Also are waterfalls or step level ponds hard to make?
This whole thing started because I impulsively bought 6 goldfish from Petco yesterday. I was going to stick them in the garden pond but decided to not be cruel and irresponsible and throw them out in winter (even though it's been unseasonably warm). So for now they are in a very large couple gallon bowl but I just bought them a 20 gallon long tank cause of Petco's $1/gallon sale. Anyway, long story short, I would like a nice pond for them to go into (and maybe some koi) so they can have lots of room and reach full size and not be stunted or cramped. I know they'll probably eventually outgrow this tank too but then I'll use it for something else. I got them a filter and air pump and everything so they can live in style for now but eventually I want them and/or other fish to go in our new, beautiful pond.
That begs another question I guess, what is the max stocking level for a garden pond like that? I'm guessing not too many more than 6 or?
