I have one turkey, along with various chickens. New Holland hen. They all live together in the chicken house. She was laying eggs for a while but no longer. She continually thinks that I want to mate with her!!! She goes in circles around me and then squats down so I will rub her. When I do she makes little gurgling sounds and lifts her butt up to show she is ready. Will this go on for a while?? Should we get a male turkey. Perplexed.

Mating in turkeys is dictated by the hen. There's a biological urge to be mated by birds. It won't stop until she goes out of lay in the fall. Get a male if you want one. Be aware that sometimes a Tom can hurt a hen during mating if his claws and spurs are long. The hen will also squeal in distress during mating.

Do you want to have fertile eggs/hatch poults? If not, there is no "need" to add a male turkey to the mix - being unmated will not cause damage to your hen.
