Very good point -- wild water fowl are actually identified as the primary risk with regards to transmission to domestic fowl -- other birds can and do also carry and transmit, but it's waterfowl that are prominent.

Another important things is giving them a very secure place to live so dogs can't get to them especially if your thinking of goslings.Here on BYC there is a rehoming thread and a bye sell trade thread also.

Agreed -- hopefully you've worked out the security issues. Where did you get this goose, the one that was lost to the dog and those that you stated you had to re-home?
