Can peafowl free range?

There are good reasons for both free ranging and penning peafowl.  If you have a large enough pen they are sure to be safe, but free ranging peas are a joy to see living large and in a normal setting.  The problem is when the hens go to nesting they are easy predator bait and subject to being lost.  If you can train the birds to roost in the pen at night you get the best of both worlds however it is time-consuming and tedious having to be there every sundown to call them in and lock them up.  Big open farm barns are a blessing for those that have them as the birds can come and go as they please.  Eventually, the birds will prefer to roost under the open sky so be ready for that.

How do you feed them if you free range them? I have 4 penned but I'd like to let them free range, but I'm afraid they will run away. Do I just keep food in where I had them penned and just leave the door open? I have 13 Acres and an open barn in addition to where they are penned, and am surrounded by farms.

3 of them were born in July or August and I have a full grown male that I purchased in September, but I'm not sure of his age. OK I'll just keep food in the pen, thank you.

I have a peacock he is ok bieng free ranged and will only fly away is frightened and thats the same for my peahen

I had my peas with chickens for ten years and didn't lose any until one spring when it sprang up. No matter how you slice it it's not recommended and sooner or later there will always be trouble.
